Ormond Beach (population 37,000) is located on central Florida’s east coast, just north of Daytona Beach. This “old Florida” community dates back 120 years. John D. Rockefeller, Sr. chose it for his winter home. It is also known by many, and celebrated locally as the “Birthplace of Speed.” In 1903 automobiles raced on its very broad, firm sand beaches and land speed records were contested. http://www.ormondbeach.org/

The city prides itself on offering its residents an exceptional quality of life. It offers pristine ocean beaches, clean rivers, tree-lined streets, and good services. Its Leisure Services Department was honored in 2002 for having one of the best programs in the nation. The community events calendar features more than 30 sponsored events throughout the year. These include Senior Games, summer concerts, celebrations, festivals and special events. In addition to outstanding water sports, there are excellent tennis facilities, many championship-level golf courses, trail riding, plus local and state parks. Ormond Beach also has good healthcare facilities.

The nearest “resource city” is Daytona Beach, which is minutes away. Daytona is a culture rich city with all the amenities of a much larger city. There is great music, dance, performing arts, fine dining, nightlife, and more.

Ormond Beach offers outstanding water access for cruising, off-shore or in-shore saltwater fishing, and freshwater fishing in the nearby rivers and streams. It also has outstanding beaches. Golfers will find more than 20 championship courses in the area, and there are good tennis facilities. Equestrians will find a number of riding opportunities in Volusia County, and Ocala, which is called “The Horse Capital of The World.” It is only 70 miles inland.

The Daytona Cubs are the Chicago Cubs’ Class A affiliate. Home games are played from April to September. Stan Musial played his minor league ball here. Education
