Assisted living communities are licensed by the state to help seniors who struggle to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, toileting, walking, and medication reminders. The aid available in these communities is less involved than in long-term care facilities, but assisted living still offers custom care plans. Some communities might also offer recreational activities and various onsite amenities like fitness centers and salons.
The average cost of an assisted living facility varies by location and your required level of care. The need for affordable assisted living is slated to grow exponentially in the coming years. Learn assisted living costs, demographics, and future trends.
Assisted living facilities offer a custodial level of care for seniors with some functional impairments, either physical or cognitive. Each residential unit has an emergency call system supported by 24-hour security and staff availability. These facilities may also offer three meals a day served in a common dining room, housekeeping services, transportation, health promotion and exercise programs, medication management, personal laundry services, and social and recreational activities.
In some assisted living facilities, the basic fee covers all services. In other communities, the basic fee covers only limited services with additional charges for services on an as-needed basis. Knowing the average cost will give you a frame of reference when researching and comparing facilities.
