Pros

  • Low service fees

  • Contracts with vetted, insured, and licensed technicians to ensure quality of service and consumer safety

Cons

  • No sample coverage online
  • Lower annual coverage cap

First Premier Home Warranty Plans

First Premier offers two home warranties. These plans help consumers reduce the financial burden of paying for unexpected household repairs.

  • Plan types available: 2
  • Response time: 48 hours
  • States served: 48 states
  • Service fee: $75

For a single-family home in North Carolina, we were quoted $39.99 per month or $419 per year for Premier coverage or $47.99 per month or $499.99 per year for Platinum coverage. Plans include a $75 service per claim, which is lower than the industry average.

  • The Premier plan covers kitchen appliances, electrical systems, whirlpool tubs, water heaters, and several other items. Plumbing stoppages, like leaks and line breaks, and basic toilet tank and bowl repairs are also covered.
  • The Platinum plan protects everything in the Premier plan and up to two heating and cooling units. This home warranty also pays for refrigerator, washer and dryer repairs.

First Premier pays for rough carpentry work required to perform some repairs, but they won’t address anything you’ve attempted to DIY.

First Premier Home Warranty Options

If you have a pool, spa or combination of the two, First Premier’s optional coverage pays for fixes to all above-ground components, pump parts and the filtration system. This includes the pump blower, filter timer, valves, switches and relays.

First Premier’s list of optional home warranty coverages includes well pumps, central vacuums, freestanding and refrigerator ice makers, and more. Additional roof coverage is also available, but its limit is $500 and only covers shake, shingle, and composition roof leak repairs over the occupied living area.

First Premier Home Warranty Costs

Home warranty costs vary by location and coverage. Based on our quote, monthly premiums range from $39.99 per month to $47.99 per month or $499.99 per year for Platinum coverage. Plans include a $75 service per claim, which is lower than the industry average.

If you change your mind within 30 days of signing a contract with First Premier, you can cancel the plan for a full refund, less a $50 administrative fee.

How to Buy a First Premier Home Warranty

Complete the online quote on First Premier Home Warranty’s website or call to talk to a service agent. You can browse the site to see available coverages before contacting the company. If you are selling a home, check with your real estate agent to see if they offer First Premier Home Warranty packages. A home warranty offering repairs or replacements can be the deciding factor for home buyers.

As with any home warranty company, read your contract for exclusions, terms, and coverage limits. Keep in mind no home warranty is a replacement for homeowners insurance.

How to Get Service from First Premier Home Warranty

OFirst Home Warranty has 24/7 claim service. Once you file a claim, the company will have a technician call you within 48 hours to schedule an appointment (though several customer reviews say that technicians often contact them faster). If your repair is an emergency, First Premier will work to get a technician to your home sooner.

First Premier Home Warranty Complaints

The Better Business Bureau gives First Premier a D- rating because of government action. The company entered into an agreement with the California Department of Insurance in 2021 due to a licensing issue. First Premier cannot offer services in California until this is resolved.

On ConsumerAffairs, the company boasts a 4.4-star rating, which is higher than the industry average. Many reviews praise the First Premier technicians for being helpful and courteous.

Our Experience With First Premier Home Warranty

First Premier Home Warranty does not have sample contracts online, but we requested one via email, and a representative sent us one within six minutes of asking. This sample contract is 12 pages long and includes the information necessary for customers to make an informed decision. For example, the contract confirms that First Premier only works with vetted, licensed, and insured contractors. The company won’t charge a second service fee for repair work if a return visit is necessary within 30 days. We also think that offering two plan options—rather than several plan tiers—simplifies the process of obtaining coverage for the things you have in your home.

Moving forward, we’d like to see First Premier advertise more detailed information about the terms and exclusions for each plan. For example, roof coverage is capped at $500. Plus, the website mentions a 30-day cancelation policy but not its administrative service fee. You must read the contract, which stipulates a full refund upon cancellation, less a $50 administrative service fee.

First Premier Home Warranty Q&A

  • Will First Premier Home Warranty handle routine maintenance on my home?

A home warranty helps you pay for unexpected breakdowns. If you need help with maintaining appliances and home systems, you will need to contact a handyperson or other professional.

  • Does First Premier Home Warranty repair commercial-grade appliances?

You can have a commercial-grade appliance repaired, such as those manufactured by Sub Zero, Viking, Wolf, Bosch, Jenn-Air and others. First Premier Home Warranty covers up to $1,000 for labor and materials, and then you are responsible for paying the balance.

  • Can you cancel a home warranty from First Premier?

You can cancel your contract within 30 days of finalizing the agreement and get your money back, minus any service fees and a $50 administrative fee.

  • How long does it take to get a repair completed with First Premier Home Warranty?

Repair technicians respond to service calls within two business days. These professionals arrive with parts and components commonly used for household repairs and will likely fix the breakdown on the spot. However, some repairs require specific parts, and ordering those parts can add some time to the final repair.

  • Does First Premier Home Warranty guarantee repairs?

Yes. If you have an appliance or system repaired and it fails again within 90 days, the company will have it repaired without a trade service call fee. This guarantee is good for 90 days on parts and 30 days on labor.

Conclusion

First Premier Home Warranty coverage consists of two plans for systems and appliances. You’ll need to select the Platinum plan to get refrigerator and washer and dryer coverage, but its service fees are low and response time is fast.

Joe ** your representative has an excellent customer service and very knowledgeable about the Plan. He explained everything to me, what plan is better and also gave me a good discount and deal.

He also provided me the information about being in the Military that you got another discount.

First Premier Home Warranty is a very good choice for anyone whose looking for a warranty and believe me you will save a lot of money in the long run and they always there for you when needed most.

Joe ** is one of the best home warranty that I spoke and he gave me a peace of mind to make sure that I am taken care off.

I recommend it to anyone who own a place and to all the Military Active and Retired to look at First Premier Home Warranty before signing to any company. They care about the people. Thank you Joe **. You're more than 5 STAR in my book.

I signed up a home warranty with this company (First Premier Home Warranty). My Kitchen disposal broke down and reported; the contract says you wait for 48 hours then get a claim number, after which they'll assign a technician to come and fix the appliance.

I did exactly that, was given a claim number and a technician called and confirmed the time they were to show up at my place to check the disposal.

The technician never showed up as agreed and when I called them, they told me that First Premier Home Warranty had called them and advised them not to come.

I then reached out to First Premier Home Warranty and initially they said that this contractor had quoted a higher price compared to what they were paying for the same service, so I asked them to send me one of their contractors that was within their price range and this is when they changed the claim to be a cash in lieu of repairs.

They sent me a form to fill and send back, which I did. They then said, it should take 7-14 days to process and I waited. I started asking the status and they kept on saying it is under process. This was more than a month after reporting the problem.

One of their agents then called and told me how they had issues a check, that got lost, and they have cancelled it in the bank; so I asked him, where did it get lost? He said post office, I asked, "Do you have a tracking number?" This agent said the tracking number was with another department.

So I asked the agent to just cancel my contract and refund my dues since they had failed to fulfill their side of the contract. He said he will cancel and let me know as I could not accommodate more excuses and stories. They then went DEAD. No response to emails.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I was duped. This company (First Premier Home Warranty) took my money and gave a contract they had no intention of fulfilling. Avoid this Company (First Premier Home Warranty) at all Cost.
