When Should You Enroll in an Ohio Medicare Supplement Plan?

The optimum window for enrollment in a Medicare supplement is within six months of enrolling in Medicare, three months before or after your 65th birthday. As with other states, Ohio residents have guaranteed issue rights during this timespan—meaning you can’t be denied, and you can’t be charged more for a plan based on your medical conditions. You can still apply after six months, but an insurance company can deny coverage or charge higher premiums based on your medical history. Guaranteed issue rights apply in certain other situations, such as if your Medicare supplement provider stops offering the plan or if you move out of the service area and need to select a new plan.

Medicare Enrollment In Ohio

For Ohio Medicare coverage, enrollment begins at age 65. But eligibility is also granted for younger people if they have been receiving disability benefits for 24 months or have kidney failure or ALS. In special circumstances, your right to a policy holds for 63 days after the loss of coverage.
